What is MDF???
Richard Coupe
Put simply ( and accurately ), MDF stands for Medium Density Fibreboard. It is engineered wood, and consists of thin panels made from wood fibre, resin and wax.
Why is it such a fantastic material for cabinet doors?
- MDF does not warp or crack. Thanks to its structure, the board moves as a unit when there are fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
- It is the perfect material for painting. MDF board is made from very fine particles, giving it a very smooth finish.
- It is very easy to customise. Because of its structure, MDF Board can be cut and drilled in many different ways without any damage.
- MDF is often cheaper than solid wood but it is still as strong and can last quite long with proper maintenance
